The state cabinet in Maharashtra has accepted the Justice Shinde committee report, which found that over 700,000 Marathas are eligible for the Kunbi (OBC) caste certificate. The report examined 1.7 crore documents and found family records dating back to the Nizam era. The government is trying to contain violence related to the Maratha reservation agitation and has taken a tough stance on protesters. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has called for an all-party meeting, while Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil accepted water after a hunger strike but warned of further action if demands were not met.
