BEST told to pay Rs 1.4cr ex gratia

Two retired judges, Justice M G Gaikwad and Justice Sunil Shukre, were brought in by Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis to convince Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil to end his hunger strike. The judges, known for their commitment to the cause of the poor, met with Jarange-Patil independently to explain the legal aspects of the reservation issue. The move was made to prevent further deterioration of the law and order situation and more suicides by Maratha activists. The challenge now is to resolve the matter before the deadline set by Jarange-Patil.
