Disqualification of MLAs: Speaker clubs 34 pleas into 6 groups based on commonality

State Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar has decided to combine the 34 petitions in the Shiv Sena MLAs disqualification case into six groups based on the cause of action. The next hearing will be held on October 26. Narwekar has asked the factions not to submit new applications to avoid delays. The Speaker is expected to conclude the disqualification proceedings by February 2024 and is likely to limit the opportunity for evidence and cross-examination to expedite the process.
